Among other "firsts," the PTO was thrilled to bring to HVE in 2021 our first virtual Read-A-Thon!  Read-A-Thon offered our community the opportunity to support HVE's little readers by pledging or making donations for achieving certain reading goals. It was designed to offer the best of both worlds: to promote reading during Thanksgiving break (when we usually see some regression) and also raise much-needed funds, with the proceeds benefitting the HVE library and funding grade enrichment activities like virtual field trips. HVE's Read-A-Thon lasted November 20 through December 5 and offered a variety of awesome prizes, including two Nintendo Switches, day camp at MyGym, deluxe baking sets for young bakers, and so much more!

We are pleased to report that HVE's first ever Read-A-Thon was a huge success and we look forward to bringing Read-A-Thon back to HVE for years to come.  As a result of this successful fundraiser, the PTO was able to offer our library $10,000 to purchase much-needed books.  That's enough to buy a new book for every child in the school.

Importantly, HVE Read-A-Thon's success would not have been possible without a dedicated group of Super Moms who absolutely rocked the design, planning, and implementation of this brand new event: Laura Singleterry, Laura Addessio, Courtney Failor, Rachel Pierson, and Shay Witten. Kudos, Super Moms!

In addition, the PTO would like to extend a special thank you to HVE librarian, Mrs. Stanton, and all the teachers and staff who supported, cheered on, and celebrated our little readers during the process.  THANK YOU!

Volunteers Needed

Jog-a-thon is slated to make its return Wednesday, Oct. 12. If you can help, please drop us a line, so we can connect!

If you can help facilitate HVE's after-school Chess Club, please contact us. We'd love to bring this wonderful after-school group back to campus, but need a couple of volunteers to make it happen.
